Changing Seasons

Memorial Day marks the time when the seasons begin to change from Spring to Summer. Plants are in full bloom, the weather is becoming warmer, and we  are venturing outside to soak up the sun, safely. 

Our bodies go through amazing changes during the change of seasons. We require different things as we no longer need to hibernate and stay warm. We morph to accommodate the new climate, shedding clothes, skin cells and sometimes even eating habits. 

We must make sure to nourish and support our bodies as we go through any change, so we've put together a list of easy habits we've adopted to lead us into summer. 

 

1. WATER 

Our bodies are made up of approximately 72% water, helping with digestion, regulating body temperature, body oxygenation, acting as a brain and spinal shock absorber, aiding in cellular recovery and maintenance, and manufacturing neurotransmitters, just to name a few.

As the temperature rises, we might find ourselves craving more water to help maintain homeostasis, but don't feel like you need to gulp down 48 ounces in one sitting! Eating foods high in water content (cucumbers, celery, watermelons) are a great way to make sure you are hydrated. 

 

2. THE SKIN 

Supporting our skin from the inside through hydration is a fantastic start, and one of the coolest things about our bodies is that skin cells naturally renew themselves every month. This number slows as you get older with a turnover rate taking almost twice as long, so helping your body to remove dead skin cells is super important at any age.

3. Commit to Your Routine 

We love the change of seasons because it gives us an excuse to get rid of anything that no longer serves us and commit to what supports our whole wellbeing. In the colder months, we were slow to rise, hot coffee in hand, wrapped in our infrared blankets.
